Mickey Loomis Talks Free Agency with WWL Radio

Posted by NewOrleansSaints.com on 03/20/2013 – 2:48 pm

New Orleans Saints’ Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis was interviewed by Saints Radio Network/WWL Radio’s Bobby loomis Hebert and Kristian Garic Tuesday night. Listen to the interview here.

Below are some highlights from the interview:

On free agent CB Nnamdi Asomugha: “There is nothing new. We had a good visit with him over the weekend and he has some options. The ball is in his court and we will see how it plays out.”

On the concerns at the left tackle position with the departure of Jermon Bushrod: “A couple things on that. Jermon (Bushrod) did a good job and I heard the same concerns when Jammal Brown left us. Jermon stepped in at that time and did a good job for a number of years for us. This same thing will happen here. We will find a guy who is currently on our roster or somebody we bring in who will step up and play well at that position.”

On if the Saints signed CB Nnamdi Asomugha, could both Jabari Greer and Patrick Robinson stay on the roster: “They could certainly remain. These guys are starting players for us. Jabari and Patrick have played well. Jabari in particular has been with us for a number of years, started for us and was on our Super Bowl team. These are good players we are just trying to create depth and competition. You can’t have enough good ones, that’s for sure.”

On CB Keenan Lewis and TE Benjamin Watson signing with the Saints: “Keenan Lewis was a great addition for us. I am not sure who was more excited – us to have him or him to be back in New Orleans. That’s really refreshing when a good player from New Orleans is extremely excited to be with the Saints, the team he grew up dreaming to play for. We are really glad we could make that happen. Benjamin Watson is going to be one of those under-the-radar additions that’s going to be important to our team. He gives us another weapon at the position and he is a well-rounded player. He is a veteran player that will be really good for Jimmy Graham and our offense in general.”
