Drew Brees Talks About Sean Payton’s Return, Super Bowl

Posted by NewOrleansSaints.com on 01/24/2013 – 3:44 am

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees appeared on NFL Network’s NFL Total Access Wednesday night from the Pro Bowl for an interview with Solomon Wilcots and Marshall Faulk . Watch the interview  brees_faulkhere. Below is a transcript of the interview provided by NFL Network PR.

On if he has spoken to head coach Sean Payton since he has been reinstated by the NFL:

“We exchanged text messages. I texted him just to say it’s great to have him back and look forward to seeing him Super Bowl week. I was actually on my way out here when I texted him, so I look forward to that. Glad that he has a chance to get back with his staff; I know he’s at the Senior Bowl in beautiful Mobile, Alabama right now scouting the young guys. He’s back to doing what he loves to do.”

On if he could have anticipated how much the Saints were going to miss not having Sean Payton last year:

“I knew we were going to miss him a lot. Here’s the thing: unfortunately our record doesn’t really signify the effort that I think our coaches put forth. I feel like our coaches did a phenomenal job this year, both offensively and defensively, under very tough circumstances obviously. Unfortunately our record doesn’t show that, but I know that he would be proud of those coaches. But you talk about a sense of urgency and an interesting offseason, this is going to be an intense offseason but it’s something we’re ready for because we want to get this thing back on track.”

On how much he enjoys coming to the Pro Bowl:

“I love coming to the Pro Bowl. I love being in Hawaii, it’s a great family vacation bringing the kids out here and watching them run around. Just being around the guys; it seems like every year whether it’s young guys or seasoned veterans that have been here before, that camaraderie and whether it’s talking football or just watching the kids play together. You appreciate it more and more the older you get but it’s great to be out here with my teammates as well, some guys from the Saints. Really enjoy every chance you get.”

On the city of New Orleans hosting the Super Bowl:

“The city is extremely excited. This will be the 10th Super Bowl that New Orleans has hosted. There have been some great ones there over the years. Obviously there is no better place to throw a big event or a big party or a big parade than in New Orleans; they know how to do it, they do it right. Everything is very centralized…There is going to be plenty going on.”
