Q&A with Drew Brees

Posted by NewOrleansSaints.com on 01/14/2013 – 11:47 pm

Drew Brees and Verizon hosted 140 fans for a “Race to the Super Bowl” event in New Orleans on Monday afternoon. 1

Teams of four participated in an interactive adventure hunt through the French Quarter, completing technology-based, NFL-oriented challenges on Verizon devices for a chance to win four tickets to Super Bowl XLVII.

Verizon is hosting 10 events in New Orleans prior to the Super Bowl to honor the 10th time that Crescent City has hosted the game. Check out more info on all events here.

Brees spoke with NewOrleansSaints.com about the “Race to the Super Bowl” event, serving as an ambassador for New Orleans for the Super Bowl, the NFC Championship game and his offseason approach.

How much do you enjoy hosting events like this?
“I think it’s awesome that Verizon would host an event like this for our fans. The NOLA 10 events are a nice way to honor the 10th time that New Orleans will host a Super Bowl. It recognizes what a unique venue this is to host the Super Bowl. For me to be able to kick this event off as well as host the ninth event, which is a concert for our foundation to raise money for Hurricane Sandy Relief, is special. It’s great that we have that kind of relationship with Verizon that they want to help and infuse that type of excitement in our city.”

When did you start to convert from in-season mode to now serving as ambassador for New Orleans for the Super Bowl?
“I don’t know. Maybe today is the first day of that (laughter). My mindset is reverted. It’s going from obviously hoping that we were playing in this game, in our hometown which would have been fantastic, to now let’s be the greatest hosts that we can be. That’s what New Orleans is all about. That is what our city thrives on. How many events does this city host each year from the NCAA Final Fours, BCS Championship game, Sugar Bowl and now the Super Bowl. Even non-sports events with Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, Voodoo Fest and all these fests that we host. That’s what New Orleans does. New Orleans knows how to throw a party. We want people to come here, have a good time and want to come back here.”

You faced the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons this season. What do you think of their matchup in the NFC Championship game?
“Those two teams haven’t faced each other in a while. They haven’t faced since Jim Harbaugh arrived in San Francisco. I think they are both completely different teams since they last faced. The Falcons have new coordinators and new personnel. It’s two teams that are playing really well right now, that aren’t familiar with one another right now but about to play each other in the biggest game of our conference for the right to play in the Super Bowl.”

As disappointing as the season was, have you been able to evaluate your performance and how the team did?
“I wouldn’t right now because obviously it wasn’t good enough at 7-9. I have a plan for how I am going to go back and evaluate each and every play from last season. I will focus on what I want to accomplish personally, for us as an offense and for us as a team moving forward.”
