ESPN Names QB Drew Brees the Best NFC South Player

QB Drew Brees ranks No. 1 in ESPN.com’s “Top 25 Players in the NFC South.”

The Saints earned a division-high eight players in the rankings.

Along with Brees, TE Jimmy Graham (No. 3) RB Darren Sproles (No. 5), G Jahri Evans (No. 7), DB Jabari Greer (No. 10), LB Curtis Lofton (No. 14), S Malcolm Jenkins (No. 20) and WR Marques Colston (No. 25.)

In 2011, Brees completed 468-of-657 passes (71.2%) for an NFL-record 5,476 yards with 46 touchdown passes and a 110.6 passer rating. The 2011 AP NFL Offensive Player of the Year ranked first in the NFL in attempts, completions, passing yardage, third down passer rating (127.4), completion percentage and second in touchdown passes and passer rating.

Saints TE Jimmy Graham Ranks No. 3 on ESPN.com’s “Top 25 Players in the NFC South”

Saints TE Jimmy Graham is ranked No. 3 on ESPN.com’s “Top 25 Players in the NFC South.” 

Graham becomes the seventh Saints player to earn a spot on the list along with RB Darren Sproles (No. 5), G Jahri Evans (No. 7),  DB Jabari Greer (No. 10), LB Curtis Lofton (No. 14), S Malcolm Jenkins (No. 20) and WR Marques Colston (No. 25.)

In 2011, Graham recorded 1,310 yards on 99 catches while adding 11 touchdowns in his first full season as a starter. The Pro Bowl starter became only the second tight end to gain more than 1,300 yards receiving in NFL history.

ESPN.com NFC South Blogger Pat Yasinskas wrote of Graham “Graham is already considered one of the top two or three tight ends in the game, and the scary part is he’s only going to keep getting better as he gains more experience.”

Brees, Sproles Recognized at the Pro Football Hall of Fame

Saints QB Drew Brees and RB Darren Sproles each have displays at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio honoring their record breaking 2011 season.  (Pictures on the right courtesy of the Hall of Fame)

In 2011, Brees shattered Dan Marino’s 27-year-old mark by passing for 5,476 yards, and his 468 completions broke Peyton Manning’s 2010 record of 450. Brees finished the season completing 71.6 percent of his passes, breaking his own 2009 NFL record (70.6).

Sproles set an NFL record with 2,696 all-purpose yards (rushing, receiving, kickoff returns, punt returns) in 2011. He carried 87 times for a career-high and team-best 603 yards (6.9 avg.) with two touchdowns and ranked fifth in the NFC and seventh in the NFL in receiving with a career-high 86 receptions for 710 yards (8.3 avg.), with six touchdowns, leading running backs in catches.

The Saints will battle the Arizona Cardinals in the Pro Football Hall of Fame game on Aug. 5.

QB Drew Brees Signs His New Contract with the New Orleans Saints

Saints QB Drew Brees took a physical and signed his new contract at the team’s facility on Sunday.

Brees and the Saints agreed to terms on a five-year deal on Friday.

After leaving the Saints facility, Brees then stopped by a sandwich shop he owns on Veterans Blvd. The Saints signal caller posed for pictures, greeted customers and signed autographs.

“I hope everyone has a great Sunday,” Brees tweeted after signing his contract. “Training camp will be here soon. I look forward to seeing the Who Dat Nation in full force.”

Players report to training camp on Tuesday, July 24th.

NFL.com Lists the Saints 26-23 win at Falcons the 13th Best Game of 2011

NFL.com listed the New Orleans Saints’ 26-23 victory at the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 13 as the 13th best game of 2011.

John Kasay booted a 26-yard field goal in overtime to give the New Orleans the dramatic win over their divisional rival at the Georgia Dome.

NFL.com Lists the Saints 22-17 win at Titans as the 17th Best Game of 2011

NFL.com listed the New Orleans Saints’ 22-17 victory at the Titans on Dec. 11 the 17th best game of 2011.

Unable to reach the end zone against the Titans in the first three quarters, the Saints earned a pair of touchdown passes from QB Drew Brees to WR Marques Colston in the final 15 minutes to capture to win.

Greer Listed at No. 10 on ESPN’s “Top 25 Players in the NFC South”

Saints DB Jabari Greer came in at No. 10 on ESPN.com’s “Top 25 Players in the NFC South.”

Greer is the fourth New Orleans player to appear in the rankings including LB Curtis Lofton (No. 14), S Malcolm Jenkins (No. 20) and WR Marques Colston (No. 25.)

The nine-year veteran Started all 16 regular season contests and finished with a career-high 83 tackles (63 solo), one interception, a team-high 23 passes defensed, and one forced fumble.

ESPN.com NFC South Blogger Pat Yasinskas wrote of Greer “He’s the best cornerback in the NFC South and he’s also the division’s most-underrated player. If I had to pick one NFC South cornerback to go out and cover a top-notch receiver, Greer would be my choice.”
